About AOI Kerala

Committed to excellence in ENT care, education, and collaboration

Who We Are?

The Association of Otolaryngologists of India - Kerala State Branch (AOI Kerala) is a professional body representing ENT specialists across the state.

We promote clinical excellence, academic growth, and collaborative practice while advancing standards of patient care and medical education.

History of AOI Kerala State Branch

The present-day AOI Kerala State Branch traces its origins to 2002, when its first meeting was held on 2nd November 2002.

Background

Prior to its formation, the AOI Kerala Association functioned without representation from the Malabar region. The functioning of the then AOI Kerala branch was also not well organized.

Formation

Prof. Ashok Kumar
Prof. Ashok Kumar – Founder President AOI Kerala

Recognizing the need for a unified platform, the leaders and members of AOI Kerala and AOI Malabar came together to establish a common association for all ENT doctors in the state. This initiative aimed to foster better interaction, collaboration, and exchange of ideas across Kerala.

Key Decisions at the Founding Meeting

  • Founder President: Prof. K. Ashok Kumar was nominated as the first President of the unified AOI Kerala State Branch.
  • Zonal Structure: Kerala was divided into three zones — South Zone, Mid Zone, and North Zone.
  • Conference Rotation: It was decided to rotate the annual conferences among the three zones to ensure equal participation and regional representation.

This restructuring laid the foundation for a more inclusive and dynamic association that continues to serve the ENT community in Kerala.
